Measuring is the single most important aspect of your Topper purchase so do not skip or guess this part! Remember to allow 2” wiggle room for wearing the Topper wavy or straight. Think ahead and decide whether your hair is due a trim or if you’re planning on growing it longer in the future.
Remember to measure for any chosen cuts too! Better to err on the side of caution and allow an extra inch or so for wiggle room.
Our Topper base size is 8×8” in size meaning most of your bio hair will hide underneath so you can use this opportunity to go for the colour you always wanted. Multi-dimensional colours are easier to blend than block colours, as they contain a medley of different shades. The most important aspect of colour matching is the root area as you will be using your front hair line to blend. If you intend to wear your hair topper with a pre-cut fringe, then you may eliminate this altogether. Remember your bio hair will poke out around your ears and nape of the neck take this into consideration.
Unlike a wig, a Topper is intended to work alongside your hair so try not to deviate too far from your natural shade, 1-2 shades wiggle room can work. If you are even in doubt do send in some natural daylight photos or book a video consult for bespoke one to one advice. Remember, it’s your hair plus the Topper which equals the end result. Most of the time, our roots are darker and our ends which have been bleached by the sun are lighter. If you are planning to chop those ends off, your hair colour will change as a result.
This is a very personal decision, we really encourage you to book a free video call to go into further detail for what is best for you. Newbies are advised to start with a lower gram or a skinny topper and then advance to a thicker or longer topper for their next investment once they become more comfortable with hair wearing. If additional length is required, then a higher gram is recommended.
We love transparency so we provide the information and allow the customer to make these important decisions for themselves. We are happy to dive into more details during a video consult, but simply put, a face frame cut does help the Topper look and fit better but it does revoke your returns policy. We always advise a newbie not to add cuts until they have tried their topper on at home and feel comfortable in hair wearing. An experienced Perfectfringe wearer should go for the cuts especially if they require a specific style of cut. This means your Topper is ready to wear and saves you an extra expense at the hairdressers. If you are undecided, it’s always better to skip the cuts for right now. If you have a hairdresser you trust, this is a great back up plan!
Our most common asked question is where to part your Topper! It’s super easy, we promise! The Topper and your own part line need to match up! Simply hold up your hand as you are facing forward and put your hand over your part line. The hand nearest to the side of the parting will determine where we part your topper! Was it your left hand? If so, your Topper needs to be parted on the left hand side. Is the part line a little over from the middle, in line with the beginning of your eyebrow? Then we consider this “off-centre”. Was the part-line all the way over to the left or right? Then we consider this a “deep part”.
The middle is the hardest to blend (unless you are asking us to cut a fringe in) because there is no hair to swish back and over for the blend.
Still confused? No worries! We can help figure this out together during a video consult.
